It sounds obvious, but before putting on the condom or even before starting the action, always check the expiration date on the packaging to make sure that it is not expired, because if it is the case, your protection will be compromised.
Once the work begins, when the penis is completely hard, it is time to put the condom on.
Open the condom wrapper
Carefully open the wrapper by the serrated edge of the wrapper without using the teeth or accessories such as scissors. This is very important to avoid perforating the condom without realizing it, causing unwanted accidents.
While handling the condom, watch out for sharp nails, jewelry, or teeth, better not break it and delay the fun until you find a new one or, worse, realize it’s the last one you have.
Place the condom on the tip of the penis
When putting on the condom keep in mind that the condom can only unroll in one direction, so you have to make sure it is in the correct position. The tip should be facing up, away from the tip of the penis, and the edges of the condom should be rolled out. The condom should look like a little hat.
Do you think it is difficult to put it? Don’t worry because you’ll be able to do it faster thanks to the new Durex technology “Make it easy”: the condoms are placed with their base facing the Durex logo, you just have to open it keeping the logo down. This way you can put the condom on the first time, quickly and without mistakes.
And if you want the condom to go down even easier, you can apply a little Durex water-based lubricant to the tip of the penis to help it slide on better. It is not necessary to apply a large amount, just a drop to facilitate the work and achieve a more pleasant experience.
Place the condom on the head of the completely hard penis. You must make sure that it fits your penis perfectly without leaving bags, so it is important to wait until you have a full erection before placing it.
Slip the condom on
Carefully grasp the tip of the condom between your index finger and thumb using the pads of your fingers, making sure to leave a space between the penis and the tip of the condom for the sperm. With the other hand, unroll the condom to the base of the penis.
If the condom doesn’t unroll easily, it’s probably backwards, if that happens, open a new condom and start over. It is important not to turn it upside down and use it, as pre-cum may have remained in the condom, which would expose you to an unsafe situation.
Apply lubricant if desired
If you want to promote a smoother penetration, you can apply a little water-based lubricant or a silicone lubricant to the outside of the condom. This step is recommended if you are not using a pre-lubricated condom, and even if you choose one that is, using a little more lube increases sensitivity and helps prevent breakage.
What to do if the condom falls off
If the condom unrolls during sex, roll it back down, and if it comes off, you should remove your penis, retrieve the condom and put a new one on following the same steps as above.
In the event that this happens frequently, we invite you to read our article Why the condom falls off to discover the possible causes and how to fix it.
Take off the condom at the end of sex
When finished, it is important that before withdrawing the penis, the condom is held at the base while it is still erect and, later, the penis is withdrawn. In this way we make sure that there is no unwanted semen escape within the couple(s).
You can remove the condom when the penis is completely out. Finally, tie a knot in the condom so that the contents do not come out, then wrap it in paper and throw it in the trash.
There are many reasons to use a condom in every sexual encounter. And now that you know how to put on a condom, there are no excuses, practice pleasant and safe sex and enjoy while you protect yourself.
What you should not do when putting on a condom
In order for the condom to help you reduce the risk of an unwanted pregnancy if you have a heterosexual relationship or the spread of an STD, it is important that we use it correctly. In our article Why the condom breaks we explain the most frequent reasons why the condom can deteriorate, but it is also very important that you take into account some things that you should never do when putting on the condom:
- Don’t put it on too late: as part of foreplay you may want to rub your penis against your partner(s) genitals or anus, or start intercourse without the condom and then put it on. These practices can put the health of both at risk because, once there is an exchange of fluids, there is a risk of STD transmission. This is why the condom should always be put on from the beginning and once the penis is erect.
- Don’t use two condoms at the same time: Far from protecting you further, friction between condom materials could eventually cause them to break, exposing you and your partner(s).
- Do not use an expired condom: the expiration date indicates that the material may no longer be effective, jeopardizing protection.
- Do not use “homemade” lubricants: products such as Vaseline, baby oil or vegetable oil can damage the condom material, causing it to break, so if you want lubrication it is best to use a product developed for it. such as lubricants from the Durex range.
- Never reuse condoms: they have already been exposed to bodily fluids and should be thrown away after use.
- Avoid keeping condoms in places like: the glove compartment of the car, since it is constantly exposed to heat, or your wallet, where in addition to heat there can be friction, these are places where it is common to keep condoms but they are not suitable. The conditions of these places can damage the material and facilitate breakage, so it is best to store them in a dry and cool place.
How to choose the condom?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions, because in the case of Durex we have a wide range of condoms that provide different sensations and that, in addition, have different perimeters and thicknesses to adapt to the needs of each person.
